MONEY back
34. Can’t Eat Money — More than half of the Earth’s rainforests have already been lost to demand for wood and arable land. Ironically, much of the deforestation has been in pursuit of unsustainable farming. Cutting down trees in the rainforest, robs the soil of its primary nutrient sources and exposes it to wind and rain. In just a few years the area becomes a wasteland, incapable of growing crops or sustaining animals. In addition to devastating local ecology, rainforest destruction increases global warming which results in less arable land and food worldwide. Conservation is not just about saving animals, it is also about saving ourselves.
