3. Jaguar — Did you know that the jaguar is the largest cat in the Western Hemisphere and the third largest cat in the world (after the lion and the tiger)? It has long been a symbol of power and strength. Jaguars are solitary hunters who thrive on the diversity of prey found in rainforests like this year’s Adopt an Acre® site. In addition to hunting deer, monkeys and birds on land, jaguars also hunt fish and turtles in the water. Jaguars have no “natural” predators, but the destruction of the rainforest – jaguars’ only habitat – is the primary reason that the largest cat in the Americas is vanishing. Help us, help them!
