Hummingbird

5. Hummingbird — Need to get somewhere that's behind you? How about walking backwards? If you were a hummingbird, you could fly backwards! Hummingbirds are the only birds with the ability to fly backwards. These brightly colored feathered friends are some of the smallest birds in the world and are only found in North, Central and South America in deserts, mountains, plains and tropical rain forests, like those in the Osa Peninsula. 90 percent of these tiny birds' diet is nectar from brightly colored flowers and they consume between 3.14 and 7.6 calories a day. If we had the metabolism of ahummingbird, we'd have to eat around 155,000 calories in one day! Unfortunately, hummingbirds are losing their habitat, but you can help them by adopting acres of rainforest in the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica.
