1. Costa Rica — “Pura Vida!” Do you know what that means? It is Spanish for “Pure Life!” Ticos, or the people from Costa Rica, say “Pura Vida” (pronounced poo-dah vee-dah) much like Hawaiians say “Aloha.” It can mean many things such as “hello,” “good-bye,” “hooray,” or “cool!” Next time you see one of your friends, try saying, “Pura Vida” instead of “hi!” This year’s Adopt an Acre® site in Costa Rica, the Osa Peninsula, is less than half the size of Rhode Island, but has a diversity of habitats and richness of species unheard of anywhere else in the world for an area of this size. The species recorded in the Osa represent up to 50 percent of the species known to exist in Costa Rica, including jaguars, sloths and the renowned resplendent quetzal!
